Kevin Zdanowski and Lindsey Minas, students from Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ who work in the Adelmann Regional History Collection, recently attended the 2025 Southland History Summer Teacher Conference on June 17th at Governors State University, accompanied by Dr. Dennis Cremin, chair of the History Department and director of the Adelmann Collection. The conference brought together educators, historians, and cultural institutions to explore innovative ways to incorporate local history into U.S. history education.
While attending, the students observed the featured presentation, “” presented by Jake Sladek and Megan VanGorder, which demonstrated how regional primary sources can be used to enrich classroom lesson plans. The Reader includes documents, photographs, and ephemera from across the Southland area, many of which are preserved in online collections.
The experience allowed students to see how their archival work supports broader educational goals and contributes to community engagement. Under the guidance of Dr. Cremin, they gained valuable perspective on the importance of making history accessible and relevant through primary source material.
