Traveling Outside the U.S.

Update as of May 2025:

If you are traveling out of the US, please make sure to take note of the following important information to have a hassle-free port of entry or departure to and from the United States! Please review the academic calendar here to plan your travel accordingly.

  1. Last semester: If this is your last semester, it is NOT recommended to travel outside of the US. If it is an emergency, please let us know and we will advise you accordingly.
  2. Inform ISGSS of your travel dates: Inform the International Student and Global Scholar Services Office of your travel dates 2 weeks prior to make sure your records are okay and active.
  3. Class Registration: Make sure you are registered for classes, as well as for the next upcoming term when you travel back to the US. If you have face-to-face classes, make sure you communicate with your professor.
  4. Updated I-20 with travel signature: Bring a printed copy of your current and future class schedule with you when you travel
  5. Documentation: We recommend that any document you want to use as proof of your visa compliance and lawful presence in the U.S. should be printed on paper.
  6. Passport and Visa: It is required to have a valid passport and visa which are valid for at least 6 months into the future from the date of travel.
  7. Reminder: there may be additional scrutiny at US borders, so please be prepared and be sure to read this document.

To request for an I-20 with travel endorsement, please email ISGSS@lewisu.edu the following:

  1. Most recent copy of your form I-20.
  2. Screenshot of your MyLewis portal showing both of the addresses listed below:
    1. Mailing address - this is your US address
    2. Permanent address - this is your home country address
  3. Screenshot of your current and future class registration/ schedule

Note: we can only issue a Travel I-20 if you are registered for in-person classes for the next upcoming term. If you haven't registered yet, please contact your academic advisor, register, and get back to us with your schedule once that is complete.
